The sought after blue tick, commonly recognised as only being for celebrities, is available for everyone to apply. However not everybody will necessarily be successful. It’s likely to only be accounts of ‘public interest’ in an effort to make those using the site engage with and follow more accounts.

“Our goal with this update is to help more people find great, high-quality accounts to follow, and for creators and influencers – no matter where they are in the world – to easily connect with a broader audience” – Twitter.

Why bother?

Well, the perks have changed. Up to now, Twitter had removed this feature due to the overwhelming number of requests. But now, by having a blue tick on your account, it allows users to have more control over filtering what they see, which is great if you’re one of the many Twitter users that suffer from harassment – an ongoing problem on Twitter. With a verified account you would gain access to a specific activity column that shows only @messages, favourites, and retweets from other accounts that have been awarded that same blue tick status (As well as just look a little cooler being officially ‘verified’).

Up to now, Twitter had actually removed this feature due to the overwhelming number of requests they received for verification.

What to expect

As this is verification of your identity, expect to be asked for your; phone number, possible scan of ID document, email confirmation, a full bio on your profile and any other details that may be missing in your details. You’ll also need to be unlocked for public tweets.

Also, let’s not forget that this is a sought after tick to be awarded. So, to filter out the riff raff, you’ll need to convince Twitter you’re worth being verified by writing out what you feel your ‘impact’ is on Twitter.

Apply

Good luck!
